About Us
FLEET MANAGEMENT VISION
We will strive to be professional, thorough, and to be considered “world-class” in the administration and operation of the Fleet Management Department. We will achieve “world-class” status when other “fleet organizations” are consistently bench-marking our operation for ideas/direction. Our decisions and direction will be data-driven, “customer/client” focused and always in alignment with County, State and Federal laws, rules, regulations and objectives, including the County Vision.
Fleet Operations is an internal service fund, aligned under the General Services Agency. The function is to provide a cost-effective diversified fleet of vehicles and equipment that allow County Departments to conduct their daily business. The Fleet Operations provides vehicles, equipment, and services to the officials and employees of Ventura County, outside municipalities, and other districts, so that they may, in turn, provide services that promote health, safety, well-being, and quality of life to the residents of Ventura County. We procure safe, dependable, cost-effective vehicles and equipment and manage and maintain these assets through quality service programs that enable County departments to provide excellent services to the citizens of Ventura County. The department has a commitment to safety and the best business practices in managing the acquisition, maintenance, repair, and remarketing of all vehicles and equipment.
Fleet Operations is responsible for the specification writing, purchase and acquisition, repair, modification, up-fitting and component installation, body and paint services, full parts department, disposal of vehicles and remarketing, and maintenance of over 1,800 vehicles and equipment, as well as the purchase, installation, and maintenance of auxiliary equipment. Services are provided at a rate below like services in the private sector. The fund is self-sustaining by collecting revenues for all services provided. Fleet Operations also life cycles vehicles and equipment by managing for replacement funding as part of asset management. Funds are managed and collected monthly over the life of a vehicle to provide adequate resources to purchase a replacement when the service life is over. The Fleet Operations works with departments to develop specifications, life cycles and awards.
