Assessment Appeals Board Member Recruitment
This Recruitment closed on August 30, 2024.
The County of Ventura is accepting applications to fill one Board Member vacancy on Assessment Appeals Board No. 2 (AAB). The AAB is a quasi-judicial body which hears assessment appeals at a public hearing where evidence is submitted by both parties, the applicant or their authorized representative, and the Assessor’s Office. Evidence supports the applicant’s challenge of a property’s valuation or other determinations made by the Assessor’s Office. The AAB hearing process provides ‘equalization’, or fairness of the assessment of a property’s value of the property in question. Individuals with commercial property experience are highly desired. Board members currently serve an average of 8 times per year, but this can decrease or increase depending on the volume of assessment appeals filed with the Clerk of the Board. Board Members should expect to spend between 2 to 8 hours hearing appeals. The AAB carefully weighs all evidence presented, and while applying California property tax law and guidelines from the California State Board of Equalization, decides to either uphold the Assessor’s determination or issue a revised assessment.
